What are your rarest CED treasures?? Some might just be rare to you. I recently acquired Zombie, which was one I sought for a while. I had a copy that the caddy looked rough, I sold it on Ebay for 20.00 (I'm not the person who can put crappy looking Discs on there for 100 bucks). Yesterday, I finally got a really nice one. It looks good and Plays well.
I got Great Entertainers & Aloha disc for Christmas. Found the second copy of Goonies I ever saw. I sold my first to blindfury!
Recently I acquired Savage Streets in a huge bunch of CEDs. Last Sunday night, I bought Memories of Videodisc, I can't wait until it gets here!!!!
So what are your titles?? _________________ SGT-250

Out of my 156 CED's, the following are rated as VR on CEDmagic.com:
Academy Award Winners: Animated Short Films
Gidget
Jack and the Beanstalk
Little Prince: Next Stop Planet Earth
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer
Space Shuttle Mission Reports STS 5, 6 & 7
My CED inventory breaks down to:
21 Common
97 Uncommon
31 Rare
7 VR
I have not been able to get any ER discs yet. Maybe someday when the price is right and two protons collide near Neptune (sigh). _________________ Sears 934.54780150 & 934.54810350

| I like that you added "some might just be rare to you" Scott. I think of some of my favourites as my rarest. My favourite movie of all time, Back to the Future. The Wild Life I hadn't know about until I watched the CED and that's one of my favs now. Just so many great titles to choose from. Such a great hobby. |

I'm so thrilled! My Memories in cello just came this morning! I'm really wanting to remove the cello!!!! I also managed to trade Savage Streets for Story of O! I'm not sure which is the most rare, but I went for Story of O. _________________ SGT-250

I recently got a copy of Volunteers starring Tom Hanks and John Candy copyrighted 1985 rated as VR. With the exception of magic marker writing on the edge of the caddy, the disc is in good to very good condition. I removed the magic marker using 91% isopropyl alcohol followed by soft scrub. _________________ Sears 934.54780150 & 934.54810350

I have an idea that may be some fun. It's called DID YOU KNOW? and it is very simple. Come up with a fact that you have learned about this format. Something you think is unique. Okay, Here is my input.
DID YOU KNOW! The first four Tom Hanks movies is on CED?
It can be about trivial like mine or it can be something technical that will help us fanatics who would love to know more. So what do you know that you want to share???????????????? _________________ SGT-250

Oh, this is a cool older thread. This needs to be revived! We need some photos of rare gems, guys!
I've got some rare ones.
How about a sealed copy of Thanks for the Memories?
I've got a sealed copy of bring the magic home:
Is this the last sealed copy of Interactive CED - Space Shuttle - Mission Reports STS 5, 6 & 7 remaining in the world?
Ever seen a copy of Zenith field service disc before?
RCA Demo Videodisc - 1984 Video Systems - Featuring RCA's New Digital Command Center
CBS/FOX Demo Videodisc - CED Entertainment Sampler
RCA Selectavision Videodisc - Service Alignment Disc
(the seller said it was still sealed! He didn't know any better and removed it, because he said it was damaged.)
RCA Selectavision Videodisc - Service Test Disc
I think that's it for my most rare. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

How about a sealed copy of The Goonies?
The stereo disc sticker doesn't belong to it, I added it (loosely placed in the ziplock), but it does appear to be a factory seal, best I can tell!
Think there's still another sealed copy hidden away out there somewhere?
This is a crazy rare B movie:
John Carpenter's - Black Moon Rising - one of the few 1986 releases!
Just one of the guys is a crazy rare late, 1985 title
(more so than most other 1985 titles by far. Right up there with weird science and enemy mine as being even more than most '85 titles I've noticed.)
As are these 1985 releases:
Rare CBs/ Fox labels of Rocky movies. Not super rare in themselves but these ones are still sealed!
Rare CBS/ fox label Dr.no still sealed!
Interactive (Random Access) CED - The Royal Ballet - Covent Garden - Swan Lake - still sealed!
How about a pal version of the Dark Crystal?
Isn't that so much nicer an more vibrant than the US washed out version?
This is one my favorites in my collection. In my top 5 for sure. It's beautiful and really captures how magical this movies was to us former 80's kids. This is the label they all should have all gotten. It seems to be a rare UK title too because I remember watching ebay uk for well over a year to score a copy. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

The last title Jewel of the Nile is one of (what, like 5 or less 1986 releases?) is by far the most common. so common, I dare say, most collectors can have a copy eventually, but I happen to have one still, what appears to be factory sealed.
That's probably pretty rare.
I just scored a sealed copy of Weird Science too! I've still got to take a photo of this one. I'll get on that and add it here in a few mins.
Now this is super rare as is, a sealed copy of this one is insanity rare.
Here it is. Get a load of this one, guys:
That SOB cost me over $170 bucks. Only us crazy Gen X will pay that haha Nostalgia is a powerful emotion. But come on, how cool is that?
Did you ever think a sealed copy of such a rare one was still in existence!?
I'm going to auction off my old, non sealed copy down by the bay and let it go starting at 99 cents, so keep a look out for it in a few days!
This is a tough one to score too:
this one isn't exactly found all the time either
and neither is this one!
The few other interactive discs seem to be "common enough" though.
oh, no I take that back. My unsealed copy of space shuttle isn't exactly common either.
These two were not easy scores either:
OK, I think that's all my "rare" ones. Obviously some far more than others. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

Check this out. A sealed copy of Star Wars, CBS/FOX label.
I had a feeling there had to be a few of these out there. I've been waiting for a few years. So excited to have recently added this one to the collection.
Oh; wanna hear something kinda neat? I always knew both labels of a new hope, were very common, but also knew this label was a bit less uncommon than the 20th century fox label but after buying this, I got curious enough to count all the current ones listed online for sale wherever I could find them easily.
Anyway, long stay short I found them to be at an exact 1:2 ratio. For every copy I could find for sale of the CBS/FOX label, I could find 2, 20th century fox labels. At first, around 10-15, it seemed like it was going to be a 1 to 1 but the more copies I could find, upwards of 50 to 60 or so, the 20th century fox, really gained a big lead.
No big deal in this case, as both labels are still very, very, very common. It's just to find the lesser of the common still sealed just makes it a little more special is all. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

Oh yeah, I picked up this rare one. It's a fairly rare title in itself but to top it off, it's what I believe to be a factory seal too.
Oh and a sealed copy of the making of empire strikes back also. Not that super uncommon, but this one still sealed is hardcore rare.
Ah yes. One of the missing photos above is because I replaced this one with a sealed copy. Rare enough, but still sealed to boot::
I think that's all my updates on rare ones. The two main recent highlights (besides those super cool prototypes) were Rocky box set and the sealed Star Wars. Both of them sold by uneducated ebay sellers. Stole them both. Criminally payed $30 for Rocky set and not even $75 for sealed Star Wars! I've got 0 clue what they'd go for at auction.......probably more than I'd be willing to pay, had I tried to buy them that way!
So lucky.
Ah nope. Hang on. One more. I see what the other rare one was, in the other missing photo above. I updated this rare (late release) one with a cleaner copy. It can take years waiting for some of these 1985 titles to come up with mint condition caddy labels! You gotta be watching all the time.

Oh you know, this is still a fairly recent pickup and it's a very honorable mention too. This one doesn't come up too often and I've waited years for a clean copy. I never found one........until a sealed copy came up.
Speaking of honorable mentions. I have a sealed copy of Conan the Barbarian. Not SUPER rare, but by no means common like Conan the destroy either, and it's very, very hard to find a mint label of this one....Same thing here, I never could until a sealed copy came up.
(In case someone doesn't know; sealed two discs, always came sealed together....and yes, these ziplocks will just stretch to fit around them both!)
Those were super cool scores. I have a bunch of other sealed ones, especially music dics, but those are common seals. A lot of people collected them obviously, right from the start so there's no shortage of those....in general. But it's still always cool to score a sealed copy of anything, really.
Oh this reminds me, probably just as rare as that two disc sealed set of Conan is my sealed set of The Shining.
Same thing there. Never could find mint labels until a sealed copy showed up. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

I missed a couple honorable mentions.
How often does anyone find a sealed copy of Rocky 1 uh? (even in this very, very common RCA label) I spent forever looking for a mint copy, I never found one until this unicorn showed up.
Now just recently, another mint copy of an unsealed rocky 1 came in that Champaign box set... but how did this copy never get opened and played is a miracle. I know they made these by the boat load (rightfully so and good thing!) so it shouldn't come as too much surprise to still find a sealed one......but I can assure you, it is!
The other one I missed is my copy of Rocky 2 CBS/FOX label.
I posted the other two because they are sealed. Rocky 3 in this label seems to be common enough. So common, you can go grab a copy on ebay, pretty much whenever you want. You'll be a while trying to find the first movie but rocky 2?...........Good luck to ya! This was not an easy score:
(near mint.a few, very, very tiny blemishes here and there)
Rocky 2 is the only CBS/FOX label of mine that isn't sealed (neither is my rocky 4; all 4's are CBS/FOX label; I've seen a few sealed copies of that being sold too....Probably because most folks had long since moved to VCR and they didn't sell out of them at the time) Real nice clean label overall though. You find one of these with a clean label to boot, you've found a needle in a hay stack for sure.
I have another one to add here that should be here tomorrow. Kinda like these, not hardcore rare or anything, but because it's a sealed copy, it will be well worthy of posting here. It's on the far less common side, unsealed, so. One of those where it's uncommon enough, that I never did find a clean (as in at least near mint) unsealed copy of it. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

Here she is guys. Like I say, nothing super rare, at least not as is. However, like so many of these lesser common ones, it's been very hard.....scratch that, impossible to find one with a near mint label still. A sealed copy finally came up on ebay.
Mint. Just like new. You know, I have a love/hate relationship with the first 100 pack of these ziplocks. This first batch and the first batch only were a little milky. All the other batches have been nice and very clear......However, the love part is, this first batch were also the only loose fitting batch. So what I do is rob these out whenever I get a sealed one and they go right over the seal very easily. So though they may not be the best for picture taking, but not enough to worry about, to where I want to take the photos without the ziplock. Anyway they're great for protection of my sealed caddies. In person, they're not so milky looking either, odd, must be because they're baggy and the way they reflect the light, but I digress.
Anyway, I'm super happy to have finally crossed this one off the list. It's taken a few years.
There's a copy of this one on the bay with a Rockefeller Plaza RCA room 5204 sticker on it! I tough that was SUPER cool! In fact, I was about to go with that copy, until this popped up. They're asking good money for it, but that sticker does make it pretty cool. It's not mine, so I'm not going to make any money on it. I just think you guys should go check that out before it sells.
This one was on my collection list, because as....I dunno pre-teen I guess I probably was, I had that J. Geils band vinyl record!....Still have it. :)
Freeze Frame! 8)
We met in a bar
Out on Chesapeake Bay
With her white patent boots
And her blouse red lame
A table top dancer
She would smile on cue
Oh those lips of an angel

Here's a couple interesting ones I picked up a bit ago. White caddy versions of Stereo/Mono Service Alignment Discs, but apparently, rather than the alignment discs still being inside, someone (RCA?) placed something called "New Master" "NM" discs inside the caddies?
These went to auction and there was little interest. I got the one with Popeye in it for just 17 bucks and just 25 for superman disc 2. So rare, no one knows what they are? I figured the caddies were super rare enough to be worth far more than that. I was alone in my thinking at the time at least, so I feel I got them for a smoking deal.
What's interesting, is someone else found one here:
https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8161
He didn't know what it was either. Notice a couple differences with his; his has an RCA property stamp and a relabeled spline, which neither of mine have.
Tom's info on the white caddie versions of the alignment discs:
"Besides the stereo/mono Service Alignment Discs, there was also a mono-only Service Test Disc (in a white caddy) that was only available in North America during the first year of CED player production. When the stereo players were introduced in 1982, RCA replaced the Service Test Disc with the NTSC Stereo/Mono Service Alignment Disc and recommended no longer using the Service Test Disc, as it hangs up the newer players. This wasn't much of a problem with the "G" line players, as the disc could still be removed, but with the J/K players, the disc hangs the player to the extent that even the eject button doesn't work, making it difficult to get the Service Test Disc out of a J/K machine. It appears that many of the Service Test Discs were simply thrown away or damaged during the removal process, making this an Extremely Rare title today. "
https://www.cedmagic.com/featured/service/service-alignment.html
It appears (speculation on my part of course) as if RCA tossed the problematic white caddy discs, re-purposed the caddies for "master discs"? Does anyone know what a master CED disc might be, or is for sure? I took a quick peek and they just look like normal discs to me.
Anyway, I thought you guys might like to see those. After buying them, I then recalled seeing one before (about a year or so ago now) on ebay. Though I don't recall the movie inside of it, I remember the same deal; hand written movie tile with "new master" written on it also.
Anyone else have one of these, or know anything about them? _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

| i have one or 2 white mono ones and one or 2 stereo blue ones and the jane fonda workout disc. John Stephens had told me he used the blue stereo disc and the jane fonda disc to work on players. Now all I have to do is work on my players. I must have about 20 or so. |

Both of your white caddies, are not relabeled with movie titles? If they're legit discs, don't put them in your player or they could get stuck. Be sure not to confuse them with the service test disc. They look the same. That's a lot of players. You must have bought out an old repair shop with so many players and repair/service discs?
If you find out that you have a white caddy of the mono/alignment (not a service test disc as shown here), with a matching UPC code on the disc inside, and you'd like to part with it/one, I would be interested in buying it from you. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

Hey guys, I scored a few more rare gems. I just sold off my old copy of
RCA Selectavision Videodisc - Stereo/Mono Service Alignment Disc - Blue Caddy
Because I scored a major upgraded copy! A pristine sealed copy. Did you guys watch it go starting at 99 cents? Just like I did with the copy before that one a couple years back. Congrats to the winner because it didn't even go for half the price the first copy did (in fact, I took a slight loss on it, but that's ok). Money is tight these days for a lots of folks, so stuff is down across the board I'm sure.
Anyway, someone posted this for nearly free, less than 15 bucks because they didn't know what it was! I'm so freaking lucky I saw it first.
Upgraded my copy of the preview album with a nice sealed copy.
I wont post them here, because they're not really rare, but I finally scored a copy of Jaws 2 and The outsiders with near mint labels. That took a spell.
I'm down to just a dozen or so more commons (although with near mint labels) for my collection now.
Anyway, back to the rare stuff, the same seller also posted this insane rare one, also for under $15 bucks so of course I snagged it also.
How freaking cool is that one? I think this completes all the demo's? Anyone know of any I'm missing?
Lastly, I scored this gem:
Super cool, right?! Still sealed, guys!!!!
You can read about this one by Tom here:

It was being sold casually at auction in a bundle. I spotted it but someone else did too so I had to pay for this one haha. If the other guy who tried to get it is on here too, sorry!....Well, of course, as much as I can be.
Oh, wow haha I realized I never posted, that I scored more Prototype discs in this thread. Although it's small forum, I'm sure everyone saw them in the prototype thread anyway, but they're worth mentioning. Most folks will never even see one of those. Of course they're all in my album. I'm sure this isn't news to regular visitors, but for anyone causally stopping by, you can find them all here and learn about Bob Moore, from where these most likely came from.

Oh, speaking of that. You'll see I pulled his info from a PDF file, well I causally googled that again the other day, and what do you kn, but a mint condition real copy of that RCA Engineer Vol. 23 | No.4 was posted on ebay!
I grabbed it of course! I wont post all the photos of it in my album, but I'll grab the cover, the info of Bob page and the back and post them. I'll do this in a few mins. _________________ My Collections https://ibb.co/album/vCk800

Hi y'all - I actually stumbled upon this disc a couple days ago at Goodwill (yes, I know I'm one of those annoying people that accidently found a rare disc without really looking for one...). I did post it in the "for sale" thread, so check it out if you are interested.
I previously had a working player and a small collection, but I gave it all away about 20 years ago when I was moving/downsizing. As a lover of all things obsolete and electronic (with plenty of storage room) I kind of regret giving that stuff away back in the day, but oh well!
