|
|
Hey, everyone!
I recently got an SJT-090, and thanks to a new gear and new belt from CEDatum, I got it working. However, I kept having problems with it being loud when the disc was spinning, as if the turntable was off balance. I oiled the turntable shaft, but I still had this issue. Tightening the bolt on the bottom of the player seemed to fix it, but the next time I played a disc, it might sound off balance again, so I would have to tighten the bolt again.
Unfortunately, the last time I did this, the head snapped off the bolt. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement? Also, does anyone know if there is any other issue that would make it sound like the turntable is off balance while spinning? |

| I think I have a bolt for it. But I'm not going to mess with it until it warms up a little bit. The player is in my garage and it is presently 11 BELOW zero. We are having a record breaking cold streak right now (southwest Michigan) I didn't look at the service manual yet. There is a manual for the 100 200 etc that would be applicable for the 90, that's what I have. One thing comes to mind immediately is at the bottom of the hole where the turntable shaft is inserted there is a flat metal disc and that disc can sometimes end up on the magnets on the underside of the turntable, thus creating problems. Also I have one that was pretty worn on one side and I have wondered if that could create a problem because it would add resistance to the rotation of the turntable. I flipped it over to the other side that had no wear. Other than that I would need to look thru the service manual. They are available online for free but I'm not sure where. Probably just an internet search would find it. One service manual pretty much covers all sjt units |

Are you talking about a shipping bolt, meant for shipping, which should then be removed for normal use?
Have you been able to consult a manual about it? _________________ A New Vista of RCA Victor COLOR! |

| I was thinking it's the bolt that would be directly under the turntable shaft. I don't know if it's actually called a bolt but it has a hex and can be unscrewed and screwed back in. If it was the shipping bolt/cartridge arm lock deal the player wouldn't work at all, and they state the player was operating. Maybe that's not what they are talking about (the bolt under the spindle) and I just "jumped to a conclusion"?? |

| CEDatum got in touch with me, and they have the part I need. It's actually the base nut assembly. Hopefully with the new base nut and checking a few other things CEDatum recommended, I can get the player working as it should. |
