Howdy all. Enjoyed meeting some of you at this past CED Workshop in Indy.

I have a J/K player that I had serviced at the workshop, which is awesome! I cleaned off the stylus and the picture looks glorious now. Also got some help with some other issues on the machine.

Unfortunately the other day as I was playing a perfectly good disc the audio went out. Subsequent discs also don’t play audio, so I figure there’s something wrong with the machine.

Does anyone here have any thoughts on where I should start with diagnosing this problem? Is there a sound component in this machine that tends to have issues and that I might need to replace? I should note that this isn't a stereo machine and picture and sound are going out through the RF/coaxial output.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts from y'all!

there is an IC in there,I think it's called fm demodulator, in stereo machines there is also 2 more of thos on the stereo board, but in mono units I think there is just one. I have replaced 3 or 4 of those in some of my players, and it is a common failure, john stephens sold me some "newer" ones that he said are more robust than the originals. If you look at the service manual for a 400, maybe the others have it also, a section that shows voltage at certain pins, with that IC there are 3 pins that are supposed to have 3.3 volts, if they don't the IC is bad. I've had them go out as I'm playing a disc, both on the main board and the stereo board. I think I have that info correct, or close to it, it's been about 5 years since I've worked on any players. I really should start back up on them. I only have about 20 players to repair/or at least check out.
